My financial reality at Yale has forced me to confront some hard truths: I’m not as academically successful as I could be. I’m not as well-rested as I could be. I’m not as good of a theatre maker as I could be. I’m not as good of a friend as I could be. All because I have to spend a significant amount of time and energy each week working to keep myself financially afloat, and to support my family back home. I know I’m not alone in this, and that these burdens fall disproportionately along racial as well as economic lines. The SIC keeps me and students like me from reaching our full potential, as students, as artists, and as people. So I’m calling on Yale to eliminate it.
