My relationship to the SIC has always been one of confusion and mysticism. Though I was fortunate enough to win a scholarship that’s covered that portion of tuition, I don’t know what I would’ve done had things gone differently. The administration talks so much about how rich they want student’s experience to be. As such, our time on-campus isn’t defined by education in solitude. Athletics, extracurriculars and social life in combination color the margins of life at Yale. None of these engagements would be feasible if I had to work a student job. By maintaining the SIC, Yale continues to affirm that it only cares about the experience of those with the means to live without worry.
