“As one of the earlier organizers for Universal Pass (UP), I heard so many firsthand testimonies about how harshly the COVID crisis emphasized the socioeconomic divides at Yale. While I’m mindful of my relative class privilege and stable financial situation, I also found myself losing the stability I had at Yale. Suddenly, the independence and growth I experienced in college was gone, and I was back in my racist, conservative hometown—something that definitely damaged my mental health and made it really hard to focus on school. Yale needs to meet demands of SUN/its diverse student body simply because it is the bare minimum for supporting students suddenly thrown into situations that interfere with their mental, physics, and financial wellbeing.”
