Hearing about wait times and the fact that you sometimes had to wait so long deterred me from reaching out. When I really needed it, I thought, “Why spend so much time trying to get help when it’ll take so long for it to happen?” I didn’t get help until the appointment had to physically be made for me because my mental health had gotten to such a low point. Then, even after I got a therapist, we were constantly playing phone tag. Yale needs to reduce the time between the in-take appointment and your first real appointment to de-stigmatize its mental health services. Yale also needs to make the services more accessible and less complicated to take advantage of.
